WHO WE ARE

Chihuahua Rescue and Referral (CRandR) is a 100% volunteer       organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of  Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, Canada. We are also committed to educating the  public about the importance of ethical and responsible pet ownership.

We do not house our dogs in a shelter. All of our dogs are cared for in foster homes and are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and any other veterinary necessities taken care of before being placed in a new home.

But, we couldn’t do it without your support!  We need volunteers in all areas, but primarily as fosters, transporters and home visitors.  We also need volunteers who are interested in fundraising and publicity.  If you are interested in any of these areas and feel that you have something to contribute, please email gloria@wavecable.com and consider volunteering with us.  We welcome anyone who can give even a small amount of time to assist in any area.

Although many of us have worked together in rescue for years, we formally came together in July 2005 as Chihuahua Rescue and Referral. Since that time, we have rescued over 250 dogs and gained Washington State non-profit status with Federal 501(c)(3) status  also.  We are a BCSPCA approved rescue group and work in cooperation with US and Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport.

Once you find the perfect little Tiny to love, follow these necessary steps.

1) Fill out an application form.

2) Send in the application

E-mail the application to the right Foster Parent.

3) Wait for Foster Parent to contact you.

As a Foster Parent myself, I deal with a lot of applicants and e-mails. On top of that we Foster Parents also deal with carrying out home-inspections, and reference checks. Please be patient as we will respond within the week.

4) Set a time to meet the Tiny.

Once contacted, you and the Foster Parent will set a time to meet the Tiny.

5) Home check and Reference check.

Once you meet your Tiny and decide that you would like to provide him/her a forever loving home, all dogs require to have a home-inspection and reference check before the Tiny gets adopted out. We take the necessary steps to ensure that your forever home is safe for such a fragile Tiny. We also check with your references that you provided in the application to get a feel of how you/your family are as individuals.

6) Goodbye

Once everything is done, we pull all perspective applications together to see which forever home is best suited for the Tiny.
